Background

Both men look to begin their KOSJ campaign with a successful victory. Rongai has both gained and lost fans during his recent transformation and participation in the creation of KyouHonGan. On the other hand, Penn enters Korakuen Hall as a complete mystery.

Match Progression

The tournament continued on as Keisuke Rongai of KyouHonGan entered without any of his KHG brethren, choosing to fight alone. Stepping onto the KJPW mat for the first time, DEFIANCE Wrestling's technical assassin, "The Shooter" Curtis Penn garnered a modest reaction from the unfamiliar Korakuen fans. Showing no care for his environment, Penn stepped into the ring focused and looking to make an immediate first impression.

Showing no intimidation whatsoever at the size difference, the shorter Rongai laid into Penn with thick knife-edge chops -- before challenging Penn to do his worst! Using piercing kicks, Penn came on strong after targeting Rongai's legs and midsection. After reaching the ropes, Rongai swept Penn in a position reversal -- now with Penn's backs against the ropes. There, Rongai landed two more hard chops. After trying to whip the Florida-native into the ropes, Rongai found himself countered -- with Penn pinning him against the ropes once more! With Rongai immediately striking a defensive position, Penn begun throwing brutal Muay Thai-style knees to the head and body! The onslaught forced Rongai to retreat through the middle ropes -- taking a nasty tumble to the floor in the process! As Penn pursued him however, "The Shooter" found himself struck by a timely thumb to the eye from the crafty Rongai, who quickly followed by hurling Penn into the steel security railing! After landing a few opportunistic kicks to the body, Rongai returned to the ring in time for the official's count to reach 12. While momentarily stunned, Penn managed to beat the count at 18, earning a good reaction from the Super No Vacancy Full House crowd.

Rongai was unrelenting in his attack following Penn's return. Using his short-burst power, Rongai inflicted damage with a Snap Suplex, followed by a jumping elbow drop across Penn's chest! As Rongai's offense continued, the crowd slowly began to rally behind the foreigner. Biding his time for the right opportunity, Penn finally caught Rongai with a timely kick to the chest -- sending Rongai to one knee. With his opponent prone, Penn followed with a nasty running kick to the face, earning him a two count!  With Rongai still staggered, Penn further wore him down by applying a body triangle -- followed with a Sleeper hold! While by no means a grappling expert, Rongai had been in enough sleeper holds to properly defend -- but only for so long. While briefly rolling Penn on his back for a two-count pin attempt, Rongai was further subdued after Penn returned to a standing position for added leverage... Just as it seemed Rongai was close to submitting, the strong-willed Rongai fought back with one last burst of strength! Using great awareness and positioning, Rongai actually grabbed the referee and momentarily spun him out of view -- allowing him to CATCH PENN WITH A LOW BLOW! As the official turned back around, Rongai followed with a jawbreaker to further stun Penn! Seeing his opportunity to finish, Rongai came off the ropes before BLASTING PENN WITH A LARIAT! Rongai quickly went for the cover, One... Two...Thr--2.5!!

Audibly impressed by Penn's guts, the Korakuen fans roared with cheers. The only person currently not thrilled was seemingly Keisuke Rongai, who immediately lined up one final kill shot as Penn slowly regained his footing. Seeing his chance, Rongai charged momentum as he came off the ropes. As he pulled the trigger on the match-ending lariat, PENN DUCKED!! Momentum sent a flustered Rongai off into the ropes -- WALKING STRAIGHT INTO A SUPERMAN PUNCH FROM PENN!! With the fans roaring with applause, Penn pulled the nearly-concussed Rongai back to his feet before locking in a Full Nelson... With no resistance, Penn delivered a brutal DRAGON SUPLEX -- DRIVING RONGAI ON THE BACK OF HIS NECK! While unable to maintain the bridge, Penn finally rolled Rongai over for the cover after taking a moment to breathe... One... TWO! ...THR--2.5! This time, it was Rongai who was now earning the applause of the appreciative fans. However, it seemed to do no good for Rongai, who found himself once again folded in half with Penn's Dragon Suplex -- this time holding the bridge! One! ...TWO! ...THREE!!
