Background

Much like when Jaguar debuted in 2009 as a rising supernova, Yoshihiro Shimoda made a splash on the scene when he arrived in 2002. Years after reaching their potential -- holding several top-line Jr. Heavyweight titles, the two face off in the most anticipated tournament match of the night. While good friends, both men forsake their feelings in the name of the King of the Super Jr. Crown!

Match Progression

The rabid Korakuen fans -- despite eight matches before this one -- were still full of life. Both competitors were given a very split reaction, showing the strong loyalty and following both men have developed with the fans over the years. Leaving their friendship behind them, both competitors shook hands to a huge round of applause as the gong sounded to begin the match.

After circling one another, Shimoda asserted himself as the aggressor with an early attempt at a shooting takedown -- but the lighter Jaguar was too quick. While trading some paltry strikes, Shimoda would grab hold of Jaguar's arm before applying a basic armwringer. Jaguar would quickly try to counter -- only to find himself cut off by Shimoda jolting his arm, before rotating his body -- along with Jaguar's limb in a 180 degree motion. After sudden whip from Shimoda prompted Jaguar to drop to a knee in painful compliance. With many of the fans slowly shouting their support for the popular masked character, Jaguar suddenly came to life by rolling forward to alleviate the pressure! On his back, Jaguar kipped up to his feet before countering with an armwringer of his own -- sending Shimoda flipping forward onto the canvas!

Slightly embarrassed, Shimoda jumped to his feet with some newfound determination. With some audible hostility in his voice, Shimoda powered Jaguar into the ropes. While Referee Kajiwara called for the break, Shimoda loaded up before throwing a FIERY middle kick -- prompting Jaguar to roll to the outside for the timely evade! As Jaguar took a walk, Shimoda took no pause before sliding to the outside -- where he took Jaguar by surprise and whipped him into the steel security railing -- causing flailing concern from many a female fan! While Jaguar arched his back over the rail, Shimoda fired once more with a kick -- BLASTING Jaguar across the body! As Jaguar staggered forward, Shimoda rolled him back to the ring. As Jaguar slowly sat up, Shimoda met him with a HARD soccer kick across the back -- sending an echoing thud throughout Korakuen Hall! While writhing in pain, Jaguar climbed to his feet before Shimoda attempted an Irish Whip, before finding himself whipped into the corner by a timely counter! As Jaguar followed in however, Shimoda swiftly popped his knee up -- forcing Jaguar to run head-on into it! Stunned, Jaguar found himself helpless to counter Shimoda's unique guillotine across the ropes after rebounding from the corner, onto the apron. Shimoda quickly tried to capitalize with a slingshot, or swan dive attack using the ropes. However, Jaguar cut him off with a timely slap to the chest, followed by an elbow to further stun him! This allowed the sensational third generation masked star to land a graceful JUMPING SAVATE KICK, knocking Shimoda to the Korakuen floor! While staggered, Shimoda was seemingly helpless for Jaguar's bullet tope suicida -- ONLY TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!! With a violent CRASH, Jaguar's body landed hard on the wooden floor -- just shy of the steel railing! With the crowd in a tizzy, Shimoda was quick to roll Jaguar in. As Jaguar stumbled to his feet, Shimoda connected with a swan dive MISSILE KICK -- SENDING JAGUAR'S BODY FLYING ACROSS THE RING! Shimoda went for the first cover of the match, One... Two! ...KICKOUT!

After pulling Jaguar up and sending him into the ropes, Shimoda charged with a back elbow -- knocking Jaguar swiftly to the mat! There, he quickly found himself trapped in a modified camel clutch -- with Shimoda driving his right knee into Jaguar's back! Despite having most of his face obscured, the look of agony could be seen on Jaguar's face... Surprisingly, Shimoda momentarily relented -- only to scoop Jaguar up and precariously trap him upside down in the corner! While helpless, Jaguar endured a vicious combination of kicks -- prompting Referee Kajiwara to jump in to prompt the rope break... Once again, Shimoda went to submissions to wear Jaguar down after applying a legscissors around Jaguar's neck.  Shimoda jokingly tugged at Jaguar's face, garnering some laughs -- and even a few boos from the crowd. Ultimately, Shimoda would once again release the hold before going for the cover... One! ...Two! Kick Out! Not relenting, Shimoda pulled Jaguar up before trying to whip him into the corner. However, Jaguar countered -- sending Shimoda into the corner instead. Deja vu struck however, as Shimoda once again got his knee up as Jaguar followed in, stunning the masked man. Looking to capitalize, Shimoda hopped onto the middle rope - ONLY TO BE CUT OFF WITH HIGH-LEAPING DROPKICK, SENDING SHIMODA FALLING FROM THE TOP ROPE TO THE HALL FLOOR!! Despite taking a nasty tumble, Shimoda scrambled to his feet -- ONLY TO BE MET WITH A TOP ROPE SWANDIVE PLANCHA FROM JAGUAR!! All 2,000+ fans erupted in cheers for the sensational masked Jet Jaguar, who struck a heroic pose to even louder fanfare!

After rolling Shimoda back into the ring, Jaguar went for the cover -- One! ...Two! KICKOUT! After pulling Shimoda up, Jaguar used a unique variation of the backbreaker from a backdrop position. The move left Shimoda precariously positioned -- allowing Jaguar to climb the ropes. Leaving everything to chance, Jaguar tried to finish Shimoda with a Jet Jaguar trademark. Rotating his body in a 450 degree corkscrew, Jaguar would MISS THE JAGUAR SPECIAL! After crashing to the mat, momentum sent Jaguar staggering to his feet, where Shimoda easily grabbed and FOLDED HIM IN HALF WITH A GERMAN SUPLEX HOLD! Referee Kajiwara made the count! ONE! ...TWO! ...THR-KICKOUT! With the fans ardently split between both competitors, Shimoda pulled Jaguar up by his mask -- while showing no intention of letting up. After releasing Jaguar's mask, Shimoda unleashed a POWERFUL savate kick to the body -- lifting Jaguar off the ground! Stunned, Jaguar was defenseless against two swiping slaps -- followed by a SPINNING CHOP TO THE JAW! If that wasn't enough, Shimoda finished the combination with a RIGHT-LEGGED HIGH KICK TO THE HEAD! Leaving nothing but a stumbling zombie, Shimoda called for the "FINISH!" Grabbing hold of Jaguar's arm before wringing it to set up the TRIANGLE LANCER! However, after throwing his leg over Jaguar's head to set up the takedown -- JAGUAR SWEEPS THE LEG AND POPS SHIMODA INTO THE AIR BEFORE DRIVING HIM BACK TO THE MAT WITH A SIT-OUT POWERBOMB!! With Shimoda's shoulders pinned to the mat, the official made the count... ONE! ...TWO! ...KICKOUT! Due to the effects of Shimoda's combination moments before, Jaguar was very slow to his feet. However, he mustered everything he had before letting out a fitting ROAR to the fans -- garnering a big reaction! After slowly pulling Shimoda to his feet, Jaguar would aim to finish his senior with another Jet Jaguar trademark -- the Spiral Bomb! However, as Jaguar tried to lift, Shimoda dropped his weight to block the attempt. Determined to see the move through, Jaguar expelled more energy with another hoist -- only to see it blocked yet again! This prompted Jaguar to momentarily let up -- before throwing another savate kick to the body, followed with an Axe Kick to the back of the head! After softening his opponent up, Jaguar once again went for the Spiral Bomb -- this time succeeding in lifting Shimoda up! After carefully positioning Shimoda, Jaguar begun rotating both he and Shimoda... On the third and final rotation however, SHIMODA COUNTERED WITH A LIGHTNING QUICK HURRICARANA!! Referee Kajiwara made the diving count! ONE! ...TWO! ...THREE!!

Backstage Comment

Yoshihiro Shimoda: "Jaguar is crafty -- with him comes the knowledge of three generations of wrestlers. Some would say the era of wrestlers like ATSUKA and I are passé... But tonight shows us OLD DOGS still have fight! My, what an exciting tournament to be a part of!"

Jet Jaguar: "A minor setback! Shimoda-san is a sharpshooter when it comes to the ring. One mistake can cost you. Sadly tonight, this is of that... I face Saigo next in Nagoya... It'll certainly be a splendid battle, as always!"
