[Results] "EMPEROR'S CUP Second Round," 2013.03.10 @ BODYMAKER Colosseum Second Hall

* Two nights following the first round of the EMPEROR'S CUP, KJPW returned with the next stage of the quest to crown the first HEC Heavyweight Champion! Before the official show gong, rookies Yutaka Awano and Yukio Kisanuki squared off in a dark match. Most fans had already arrived and taken their seat as the match got started, and cheered on both young boys supportingly. Kisanuki shined early on by using his precision and technical skill, but eventually succumbed to Awano's added size and power. After crushing him with a senton off the ropes, Awano submitted the smaller Kisanuki with a Camel Clutch.

* The show opened proper with Ring Announcer Eizou Hayakawa introducing the EMPEROR'S CUP remaining eight participants. Each man faced off with their respective second-round opponent to the delight of the rabid Osaka crowd. The segment went off relatively without incident, sans some heated words exchanged between Riki Ichiro and Sean King.

* The two other members of the initial KJPW rookie class took stage in the first official bout of the night, Shinji Uchikawa against Tsutomu Nishioka in a continuation of their growing rivalry. The two lit each other up with fiery forearms early on, before exchanging shoulder tackles. Nishioka made good progress after hitting a beautiful dropkick, and his "Tsutomu Buster" delayed vertical suplex (pictured.) Being a technical savant however, Uchikawa managed to exploit holes in Nishioka's game plan and take over. After a missile kick from the top, Uchikawa got the pin with a textbook German Suplex hold!

* The preliminaries continued on as MONSTER HEAD DUO teamed with Tetsuji's former Sumo mentor Masafuji Yoshida to battle the three Ward's of Kenji Tanamura; ARMADA's Yuichi Miwa, Harumi Sakai, and Yusaku Kitajima. Tetsuji and Mamoru tried to show Yoshida what it meant to be "MONSTER" by loudly charging their opponents in the corner. Though because Yoshida had no idea what the two were planning, it ended up leading to a 3-on-2 attack by ARMADA... Kitajima stood out early on, who made Tetsuji pay for his over-eagerness. However, the three Heavyweights pulled together and used their added size to seize the control. Sakai fought bravely against their brute-force offense. However, being unable to make the tag to his ARMADA teammates, he found himself broken by Sekishima's Greco Bomb. With his allies held off by Tetsuji and Yoshida, Mamoru scored the victory!

MONSTER HEAD DUO sent a very special message to "Double Goodwin," their opponents for 03/15, vowing to redeem the great country of Japan for the devastation their father, the Legendary James Goodwin has brought upon it. They promised to make the sons pay for the sins of the father.

* We had openweight tag action next as Go Taniguchi and Kazuki Sendo faced SPIRIT International's "GLAMOUR PUNKS," Katsumi Gakusha and Shino Hiriyama in an enjoyable back-and-forth encounter. Hiriyama and Sendo continued their antagonistic rivalry by trying to one-upping each other early on. The bravado led to Sendo sending Shino reeling with a head scissors whip, leading to the magnificent "Clutch Tope." The heavyweights had their heated exchanges too. Despite being the smaller wrestler, Gakusha asserted his strength with his trademark technique with some added effort put into it. The popular Go Taniguchi however came back using simple, but effective Northern Chops to give the home team some hope. A spirited Kazuki Sendo aimed to finish "Mr. DYNAMIC" with his "Nice Hit!" running knee, only to nearly found himself cradled for the three count in a crafty counter from Gakusha! The pin attempt proved to be nothing more than a tactical diversion, as Gakusha decimated Sendo with the Blessful Crusher to give SPIRIT International the win!

Sendo and Hiriyama continued fighting afterwards, showing no end to their stubborn rivalry.

* Following intermission, KAZUMA FUJITA made an appearance, and apologized for not wrestling tonight. He admitted to being taken past his breaking point in his first round bout against Naoki Fukuda, and needed a night off to recover from a "world class" opponent. He promised to wrestle on the next Osaka card, and said his vow to remain active through 05/31 will continue on.

* At last, we came to the EMPEROR'S CUP second round bouts, beginning with a violent encounter between the "Hot-Tempered Samurai" Riki Ichiro and SPIRIT International's hired American muscle Sean King. Hostile feelings were not lost from the opening segment as Ichiro RUSHED King from the opening gong! A wild, and hectic street fight broke out, leading to crowd fighting. Shino Hiriyama retrieved a BARBED WIRE BASEBALL BAT for King at one point, who point it to good use on his opponent. Given the importance of the match, Referee Kajiwara chose to be as liberal as he could with the rules. However, he was pushed to the brink after the two had turned over the time keepers table, before breaking it apart and using the fragments as weapons! King ultimately used half of the table as a landing pad for Ichiro's neck upon giving him his "Welcome to St. Louis" Fire Thunder driver! With the Osaka fans unanimously behind the native, Ichiro was able to mount a brave comeback, along with thwarting minor interference from Hiriyama! Ichiro finally took King down with his powerful "Riki Lariat," but it wouldn't be enough to finish the giant. For that, Ichiro would end up giving King a dose of his own medicine by SPIKING all 150kg+ of Sean King on his head with a Northern Light Bomb ONTO A STEEL CHAIR! The desperation move was enough to keep King down, and guarantee Ichiro's passage to the semi finals!

Fans were rabid for Riki, and his incredible Burning Spirit after the match. With blood streaming from his face, he vowed to take the EMPEROR'S CUP and HEC Heavyweight Title, or die trying!

* "Grace and Beauty" met "Size and Devastation" as ARMADA leader Kenji Tanamura squared off against the big Sumo, Chikao Kessin.  It was a unique match up as Tanamura struggled against Kessin's domineering blunt strength. He did his best to dodge and evade Kessin's heavy, but plodding attacks. Using leg and body kicks, Tanamura managed to mount some offense, before further landing with palms and knees to the face! However, Tanamura allowed himself to be foolishly over zealous, which in turn allowed Kessin to counter with the SCRAP BUSTER! The move did massive damage, and nearly cost Tanamura the match. He would perhaps made another poor choice in retreating to the outside, as Kessin followed and refused to ease up in this all-important tournament match. Kessin punished Tanamura by whipping him HARD into the steel, and inflicted severe damage by dropping him NECK FIRST across the metal security rail! Feeling confident, Kessin began paint brushing and shoving Tanamura around while shouting insults like, "ARE YOU EVEN A MAN!?" Tanamura answered swift and decisively; BLASTING Kessin with right-and-left elbows! Kessin absorbed the shots as if they were petty blows. Upon returning to the ring however, Kessin found his resilience tested by "The Gladiator King" renown technique in martial arts. After avoiding many of the same shots he suffered through earlier on, Tanamura landed a match-changing Abisegiri! Kessin would momentarily suppress Tanamura's momentum with a Sekai Ichi no Backdrop attempt, only for the "Gladiator King" to counter with a GROUNDED HEADLOCK of all moves! While simple, the hold proved to be an effective counter for Kessin's devastating Backdrop Suplex. Kessin made the couple of attempts to escape, and even nearly succeeded in following through with the Sekai Ichi no Backdrop. However, Tanamura eventually momentarily relented to avoid the fatal maneuver, only to catch Kessin with a BRUTAL  left high kick! With the Ozeki staggered, Tanamura fired with a POWERFUL right-legged high kick to KO the Ozeki! Tanamura followed with the cover to advance to the semi final round!

Kessin garnered a big ovation after the match, with the fans showing their appreciation for the Ozeki's hard efforts. Kessin's strength was recognized by Tanamura as well, who offered a sporting handshake. Embarrassed, Kessin refused and left to the back...

* With two semi finalists decided, it was time to see who would join Riki Ichiro and Kenji Tanamura on 03/15 as the "Rampaging Choujin" faced literal tall task in the form of 194cm Yujiro Higuchi. The match was nothing less than hard hitting as the two stubborn buffalos butted heads. TAKU showed just how far he'd go to become HEC Heavyweight Champion by taking Yujiro to the outside of the ring after a power lariat, and following it with a DIVING MISSILE KICK TO THE HALL FLOOR! The fearless move left the Osaka crowd momentarily breathless, before erupting into a chorus of cheers and calls of "TA-KU!" Yujiro would not be so easily broken however, and took back control just moments later with a POWERFUL big boot to the face! Higuchi proved to be a serious threat to TAKU and his promised victory of the tournament. and nearly finished the "Muscle Beast" with a CHOKE SLAM! The match broke down into a hearty slug fest with neither man wanting to show weakness. TAKU was ultimately able to prove supreme with a HARD lariat to take the "Nagoya Tower" off his feet! TAKU followed up by climbing to the top rope, and DRIVING his elbow deep into Higuchi's body with a diving elbow drop! The powerful combination would only keep Higuchi down for two as TAKU covered. With Higuchi cornered, TAKU aimed to finish the bout with possibly his trademark Kinniku Buster... However, through diligent slaps, Higuchi pulled TAKU up onto the second turnbuckle with him. After a desperate struggle, Higuchi finally landed a THUDDING headbutt to momentarily knock TAKU off-base! Properly staggered, TAKU could do nothing to fight Higuchi as he carefully hoisted TAKU overhead. The Osaka fans looked on with absolute horror as Higuchi JUMPED FROM THE TOP ROPE, DRIVING TAKU INTO THE MAT WITH AN AVALANCHE JUMPING POWERBOMB!! The match seemed decided as the fans passionately cheered TAKU on. Somehow, as the referee's hand reached 2.9, TAKU KICKED HIS POWERFUL LEGS TO BREAK THE PIN! Amidst defeaning "TA-KU!" calls, Higuchi tried to finish TAKU for good with the DOUBLE GAUGE Choke Slam... TAKU however BROKE FREE and landed yet another hard lariat! While holding his ground, it would take two more consecutive blows from TAKU to knock Higuchi off his feet! Staggered, Higuchi sat up; completely unaware of the oncoming CHOUJIN BOMBER from TAKU! This time, it looked like TAKU had it decided as he went for the cover, ONLY FOR HIGUCHI TO KICK OUT AT 2.5! Feeling the victory within his grasp, TAKU stretched his right arm out once more in a familiar fashion... After coming off the ropes, he decimated Higuchi with one, final CHOUJIN BOMBER. The hard boiled battle had come to its end, and TAKU came out on top and advanced to the semi finals!

Unanimous chants of "TA-KU!" roared through out the hall afterwards. On the microphone, TAKU said once again that he would give his life for the EMPEROR'S CUP, and tonight was a simple taste.

* Our final bout could be a main event match on any card in the country as the "Invincible Mastodon" Naoki Fukuda met "Mr. Transcendence" Seiji Ebisawa, the venerable leader of SPIRIT International. However, making matters even more important was the lone remaining spot in the semi final round of the EMPEROR'S CUP tournament. Perhaps his own way of showing respect for the weight of this main event situation, Ebisawa instructed his fellow SI members to remain in the dressing room for the match, truly making this a one-on-one situation. Naoki and Seiji got in each others face face as the gong sounded. Trash talking led to a furious tirade of back-and-forth exchanges involving slaps, forearms, and knife-edge chops. The give-and-take continued long enough to garner a massive round of applause from the nearly 2,000 strong! The standing strikes eventually led to both men testing their mettle with running blows. Fukuda finally seemed to have won out after hitting Seiji with his Fujita-like lariat... ONLY FOR EBISAWA TO COME OFF THE ROPES WITH A POWERFUL LARIAT OF HIS OWN! The early going of the match had that constant theme of Naoki gaining head way, only for the wily 44-year-old Ebisawa to pull the rug out from under him before he could deal a critical blow. Ebisawa eventually grounded the Mastodon with a top wrist lock. After subduing Naoki momentarily, he dealt a harsh salvo to his arm by stomping down directly on Naoki's arched extremity. The attack seemed to be ineffective however, as Naoki eventually wrestled his way to a standing position. With Seiji briefly lost, Fukuda pressed all 110kg of Seiji Ebisawa over his head. After holding him up for about as long as the Osaka fans would wildly cheer for, Naoki dropped Ebisawa across his shoulder, before DRIVING him into the mat to complete the MASTODON PUMP! Naoki felt confident as the crowd unanimously cheered him on. Perhaps too confident. After momentarily playing to the fans, Naoki ascended to the top rope, driving them even wilder. After quickly making his "Mastodon" appeal, Naoki tried to finish the "FREE SPIRIT" with the Mastodon Crash... ONLY TO COME UP MISSING!! Ebisawa seemed to enjoy embarrassing Naoki; about as much as he did grinding his foot atop his head. Seiji forced Naoki to the outside after several short, but blunt soccer kicks to the side of the head. On the outside, Ebisawa punished Naoki with more chops, before trying to whip him into the security railing... Naoki however COUNTERED to send Seiji CRASHING into the steel! The Mastodon's momentum would be very short lived though, as Ebisawa immediately cut him off as he rushed in; knocking him down with a running high kick! Referee Hirata's discretion was pushed to its limits as Seiji pushed the boundaries of KJPW's normally stringent rule book by taking Naoki OVER the security railing, and choking him with television cables! Finally, Hirata began his count, getting up to 15 before Ebisawa finally took notice, and returned to the ring. Referee Hirata chastised Seiji for his rule breaking, while Seiji chastised Hirata for not continuing to count out Fukuda! Begrudgingly, Hirata resumed his count. Naoki would make the literal last second comeback to slide into the ring at NINETEEN. Ebisawa however stayed on top of Naoki using hard hammer blows and knee drops. Before long, Ebisawa caught Naoki with his Exploder, leading to the first near fall of the match. Sensing victory was near, Ebisawa dramatically clinched Naoki before taking the steps to set up the WRIST-CLUTCH EXPLODER! Naoki however was not ready to quit, and fought ferociously to break free. However, the Wrist-Clutch appeared to be nothing more than a decoy, as just Naoki was primed to break free, Seiji released his grip just long enough to SINK IN A SLEEPER HOLD! Know full well that Ebisawa defeated his first round opponent with this very hold, the Osaka crowd came unglued. Deafening chants of "NA-O-KI!" Naoki valiantly fought through the blood choke. However, he began to show his own humanity by slowly beginning to succumb to the hold's smothering embrace! However, just as Naoki's legs appeared to have been done, Ebisawa shifted tactics again by stuffing Naoki's head between his legs and aiming to POWERBOMB the Mastodon! As Naoki laid there essentially kneeling, Seiji took the time to arrogantly gesture to the crowd to garner their vociferous jeers. In doing so however, he possibly took too long, as Naoki began wildly fighting the Powerbomb attempt! After several near hits, Naoki finally countered with what appeared to be a textbook shoulder throw.. Naoki however shocked the crowd, and more importantly Ebisawa by DRIVING HIM HEAD FIRST WITH A REVERSE TOMBSTONE DRIVER!! Once again, the fans erupted in an ovation of cheers, applause, and foot stomps! Naoki covered the SPIRIT International leader -- ONLY FOR EBISAWA TO KICK OUT AT 2.999! Ebisawa's Burning Spirit by this point had even earned him some support, as a few "EBISAWA!!" calls could be heard in the back of the hall. Quickly however, they were drowned out by the white hot chants of "NA-O-KI! NA-O-KI!!" Not missing a step, Naoki HOPPED over the ropes before climbing to the top! Performing his full "Mastodon Appeal," Naoki jumped from the top before CRUSHING EBISAWA WITH THE MASTODON CRASH!! There was simply nothing left in Ebisawa's tank, and he was unable to kick out of the Mastodon's pin!!  Through incredible resilience and opportunity, Naoki Fukuda advanced to the semi finals of the EMPEROR'S CUP, rounding out the already lethal final four!

After the match, Naoki attempted to show respect to the 44-year-old with a handshake. Ebisawa refused, and managed to leave the ring under his own power; without the help of SPIRIT International...

"FUKUDA IS IN TROUBLE!!"

* Victorious, Naoki attempted to give the customary closing speech to the fans, but as he began to thank the crowd for their support, he was cut off by the man he'll face in the semi finals, his good friend TAKU! While silent, TAKU made his intentions to beat Naoki known with a simple gesture... Just before TAKU was about to deliver his own mic appeal, he and Naoki were joined by the third semi finalist, Kenji Tanamura! Before he could formally join in the bravado, he was called out by his semi finals opponent, Riki Ichiro! Tanamura attempted to keep a calm head, but he was eventually provoked into a wild brawl by the "Hot-Tempered Samurai!" Having his wound reopened by Tanamura's simple slaps, Ichiro busted Tanamura open in kind with a brutal knuckle punch! The fight continued to wage out of control as Ichiro would break several chairs over the "Gladiator King's" head! Both men would have to be separated by officials, leading to an abrupt end to the show...
